Jesus sums up common-sense carefulness in a disciple as infidelity. If we have received the Spirit of God, He will challenge us in every plan we make -- Now where does God fit into "this relationship", into this "holiday plan," into this "material I am reading," into this "church activity?" God will experience pain like a husband with an "unfaithful" bride until we learn to make Him our first consideration for every activity or spoken word. Whenever we put our viewpoint first, there is uncertainty and confusion.
"Take no thought . . ." don't think about what you will do or how you will do it. Any forethought puts yourself in God's place of authority and responsibility. It is not only wrong to worry, it is infidelity, because worrying means that we do not believe that God can handle the practical details of our lives, and it is never any thing else that worries us. Have you ever noticed what Jesus said would choke the word He delivers to us? Is it the devil? No, it is the cares of this world. It is the little things we worry about, always. Our disposition is: I cannot trust where I cannot see the outcome. This is the point at which infidelity begins. The only cure for infidelity is immediate and absolute obedience to the Spirit.
The best way to put it is that Jesus desires the absolute abandon of His disciples to Himself.
Commentary by SONmail:
If you will notice, the Holy Spirit revealed to Oswald Chambers that living our lives from our own sense of rightness, "common sense," is as displeasing to God as marital infidelity is in human existence. "Infidelity" is one of the most powerful words in any language. Our lack of trust betrays us as liars when we say we are "Christians" who follow Christ's example. We make a mockery of Jesus and His ability to perform the supernatural when we worry in the same way as those outside of Christ. Further, our actions betray our falsehood in stating that we "trust" in Jesus, when we actually do not. We will never receive the full blessing of God, nor bring the full glory to God in our everyday existence, unless we are so completely abandoned to His love that we do things, at His bidding, which defy the natural. Even those who do not know about Jesus can live by "common-sense." That is why it is called "common." None of Jesus' miracles, for that matter none of the miracles of God in the entire Bible, even closely resemble "common sense."
This message is neither overstated in the use of the word "infidelity," nor presumptious in any way. The primary reason for the largely ineffective Church in the 20th and 21st centuries, is that she is trying to earn Christ's favor by her service and duty. A bride, who is cherished by her husband, must do absolutely nothing to be loved by her husband. His love is not based on her works, nor by her wits. It is based solely upon his unfailing affection for and willingness to give all of himself and all he possesses to her. ALL OF OUR WORKS SHOULD BE ONLY THE BYPRODUCT OF A DEEPLY PASSIONATE AND INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP BASED ON COMPLETE TRUST IN OUR SAVIOUR (HUSBAND) JESUS CHRIST. If we truly "love" Him, we will "feed His sheep"; that is, care for all whom He holds dear.
Personalized: When my service to others stems from my intimacy with Jesus, and being so close to Him that I know His thoughts without asking, my actions will resonate with the heart of God the Father and those who receive the benefit of my service will "know" that these actions are a result of love not duty. Then and only then will people ask about the reason of the hope that is within me. Remember that what made Paul and Silas' faith attractive, to the point that the Philippian jailer asked them what he must do to be saved, was that they were singing while imprisoned and beaten. This is not "common sense." On the human plane, it made no sense at all.
CHRISTIANITY SHOULD BE RIFE WITH "SENSELESS" and "SELFLESS" and "IMMEDIATE" OBEDIENCE TO THE "KNOWLEDGE OF GOD'S THOUGHTS and DESIRES" STEMMING FROM OUR DEEP and PASSIONATE RELATIONSHIP TO JESUS. If you can say the word's, "JESUS, I LOVE YOU" without the overwhelmingly deep feeling from within that is GREATER THAN YOUR MOST INTIMATE OVERTURES OF LOVE TO YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT OTHER, then you may be acquainted with Jesus, but YOU ARE NOT RIGHTLY RELATED TO HIM. Nearly every human being on the planet can see, without asking, when two people together are "in love." In the same manner, those who watch us can readily see whether we are in love with Jesus or not. If we are constantly asking God for things (health, prosperity, opportunity) we are in lust with Jesus. (Love is selfless asking and action, lust is selfish asking and action.)

This kind of relationship is not reserved only for the original 12 disciples and world renowned servants of God over the centuries. The Holy Spirit was sent to enable every believer to have this is the kind of relationship . If you want to see real fruit (people turning to Jesus for redemption), this is a must. As Jesus summed it up in John 13:34-35, "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another." Selfless love, for someone who is purposely treating you badly, is the supreme test of Christ-likeness who said in His final hours on the cross, "Father, forgive them because they don't know what they are doing." It is never about "fairness." It is only about serving others before serving self. If you are beating your chest about your rights, you are not living according to Jesus' example.
